Successful organization of “Dnyan-Vidnyan Vachan Chalwal” Lecture series

    
Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science & Commerce and Bahishal Shikshan Mandal, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) had jointly organized “Dnyan ViDnyan Vachan Chalwal” Lecture Series from 14th December to 16th December, 2017. The Lecture Series was
organized to inculcate reading habits among students. Renowned speakers—Prof. Vaijayanti Chiplunkar, Dr. Karnika Vyas, Dr. Rajendra Kankaria  were invited to guide students about reading habits and culture. Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College presided over and inaugurated the lecture series. In his inaugaral speech Dr. Kharosekar guided students on the importance of reading books and urged them to read books of renowned, successful, and inspiring people from different parts of the world and imbibe their knowledge and wisdom in their own respective lives. 

In the first session, Prof. Vaijayanti Chiplunkar spoke on the book ‘Kimayagar’ written by Dr. Achyut Godbole. She said that through this book Dr. Godbole tried to explore the lives of great scientists  who were wizards and contributed immensely towards the betterment of human race. She presented interesting facts about Albert Einstein, Charles Goodyear, and Varaha Mihira and talked about how their discoveries changed humankind. Prof. Chiplunkar said, “These scientists had chosen the most difficult path and with their reletless efforts and perseverence humankind has obtained its glorious heritage and culture. She asked students to get inspired from the life-stories of these science wizards by reading about them.

In the  second session Dr. Karnika Vyas discussed about the book ‘How Brain Works?’ by Mark. Wm. Dubin. She said that the book talks about the functions and disfunctions of the most
complex machine, i.e. human brain. She explained aout the basic structure of brain like Frontal Lobe, Parietal Lobe ,Temporal Lobe ,Occipital Lobe and cerebellum. Dr. Vyas informed that the period 1990 to 2000 is called as the decade of the brain because the field of neuroscience made rapid development during this period.

In the third session, Dr. Rajendra Kankariya spoke on the book “Timeeratun Tejakade” written by renowned anti-superstition activist, rationalist and author Dr. Narendra Dabholkar. He said that Dr. Dabholkar believed that only Vichar(Thinking),
Aachar(Action) and Siddhant (Principles) can bring humankind out of the clutches of  superstitions, blackmagic, and godmen. Dr. Kankariya made students aware about the trickery of godmen and dubious trantiks who decive gullible pooer people by citing suitable examples from the book. He said that Dr. Dabholkar gave his life fighting against such superstiotions and the people who propogated them.


Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice principal, Kaveri College, Staff members and students were present on this occasion.Ms. Shilpa Khadilkar, Center Coordinator Bahishal Shikshan Mandal , compered the program and the committee members proposed vote of thanks
