Inauguration of NSS Activities at Kaveri College



The NSS activities of Kaveri College ao Arts, Science and Commerce for the year 2016-17 was inaugurated on 13 th August 2016. The function began with the lighting of the traditional lamp at the hands of Mr. B.B. Rao, Treasurer, Kannada Sangh, Pune, the Chief Guest Prof. Dr. S.R. Pacharne, SPPU’s NSS District Co-ordinator and Principal Dr. S.B. Kharosekar. Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, the Vice Principal was also present on the occasion. It was followed by the singing of NSS Anthem by the volunteers.
Dr. Kharosekar in his inaugural speech talked about Kaveri College’s phenomenal growth in academic as well as extra-curricular activities in recent years. He also talked about the different activities conducted by the college for student’s overall development. Dr. Kharosekar shared that the college has received SPPU’s prestigious ‘District Level Best NSS Unit Award' and Prof. Anand Buddhikot, the college NSS Unit’s Program Officer received ‘District Level Best NSS Programme Officer Award,’ for the year 2015-2016. Dr. Kharosekar praised Mr. Anand Buddhikot for his valuable contribution towards the immense growth of the College NSS Unit and congratulated him for winning the coveted award. He appreciated the NSS unit for their relentless, untiring efforts for the betterment of the society and said that the unit is working on the lines of the College motto, ‘Work is Worship.’ He said, NSS teaches serving the nation selflessly and also that NSS works as an instrument to keep the nation united. He opined that NSS promotes work by public participation and thereby unity in diversity.
The Chief Guest Prof. Dr. S.R. Pacharane in his speech talked about the importance of NSS in a Nation’s growth. He said, along with Unity, participatory democracy; NSS also inculcate management skills which include management of time, stage, group, and work. It also helps build leadership qualities and encourages team building. He encouraged students to bring quality and constructive work to the society through the medium of NSS.
On this occasion, the college had organised a special Cleanliness Drive in which NSS volunteers cleaned the college premises and the surroundings of Matoshri Old Age Home.
Program Officer Prof. Anand Buddhikot compeered the program and Prof. Akhila Kalmadi proposed Vote of Thanks. The program ended with the rendition of National song Vande Mataram.
The program was attended by large number of NSS volunteers and Students.
