As a part of social responsibility Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce successfully undertook a tree plantation drive on the 21st July 2016 at Nagari Van Udyan, Warje, Pune.
The
drive was inaugurated by Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College who
emphasized on the importance of tree plantation to save our ecology. He said serious efforts are needed to reduce
carbon emissions to lessen the effects of global climate change and one such
effort is massive tree plantation drive which
can prevent pollution and increase the green cover around. On the occasion Dr.
Kharosekar also informed that Kaveri College, in its bid to fight climate
change and Global warming, has launched ‘One Student, One Tree Campaign’ and
has resolved to plant 1100 trees till 15th August 2016.
As a part of this
Campaign, about 200 students from Kaveri College and staff members planted
saplings of Bauhinia Variegata(Kanchan Tree), Ficus Religiosa(Pimple Tree),
Bauhinia recemosa(Apte Tree), Banyan tree(Wad), and Azadirachta indica(Neem
Tree) in the premises of Nagari Van Udyan.
Forest Conservator Mr.
M.P. Bhavsar said that the real challenge after tree-plantation would be to see
that all the saplings that have been planted, grow and survive. He requested
the students to visit the Udyan regularly and nurture the saplings till they
grow into trees.
Representatives of
Pune Forest Department, Ms. Devyani Pund and Ms. Neelam Chavan were also
present on the occasion.
Staff members Mr.Anand
Buddhikot, Mrs.Bhakti Dandekar, Mr. Sachin Deokate, Mr. Rohit Tambe, Mr. Nilesh
Nemade and Ms. Swaroopa Barve planted saplings and contributed towards the
green drive.
