A
guest lecture on ‘Gateway to IIMs’ was organised by the Department of
Management, Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce on 2nd January
2020. Mr. Mayur Gawde was the guest speaker for the occasion. Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice Principal
Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, teachers and students were present for the same.
Mayur
is an alumnus of Kaveri College and completed B.Com in 2016. He took admission
in IIM Udaipur and will be working as a summer intern at UAE Exchange as a
Financial Analyst at the Abu Dhabi Head Quarters during April and May, 2020. He
discussed with the students various reasons to pursue MBA which included higher
salary, creativity, constant networking etc. He also focused on components of
MBA entrance exam; Quantitative aptitude (Geometry, Algebra and numerical),
Logical reasoning (puzzles, tables etc) and Visual Reasoning (grammar,
analogies, idioms and comprehension). He said that the key to crack any
entrance exam is to attempt maximum number of mock tests.
The
entire focus of the lecture was on various entrance exams for MBA like CAT,
XAT, SNAP, NMAT, and MAHCET. He also asked the students to join various Facebook
groups which deal with MBA entrance exams. These groups are interactive and
help in solving real time problems of the students. Reading news papers and
keeping oneself updated about all the happenings from movies to social events
helps to score better in the exam. He suggested that the students should solve
easy questions first and later attempt the difficult ones.
He
also guided the students on GDPI i. e. Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
He informed the students that GD and PI are conducted under the common
admission process of IIMs. They help to assess the thinking capacity, critical
thinking etc. The personal interview scrutinises the personality, lifestyle and
the family background of the candidate. The final selection of the student
depends on the merit list and academic profile. The lecture was followed by
question-answer session.
Around 42 students were benefited from the guest lecture.
