Kaveri College celebrates 153rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda





Kannada Sangha,Pune’s Kaveri College of Science and Commerce NSS department inaugurated on 12th January, 2016 a week long YuvaSaptah’ to commemorate 153rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The chief guest for the function was Mr. Mohan Shete, president of Itihas Premi Mandal, Supervisor and history teacher from New English School, Ramanbaug, Pune. Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha and other members of Kannada Sangha, Mr. B. B. Rao, Treasurer, Mr. Ramdas Acharya, PRO and Mrs. Rashmi Pattnaik, Administrative Officer graced the occasion.  Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal of the college, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice-Principal, Mr. Anand Buddhikot, Program Officer, Mrs. Sujata Bacchav, Head Bahishal Shikshan Mandal of the college, Teachers, and students, were also present on the occasion.  

The programme started with NSS Song by the students. Dr. S. B. Kharosekar explained the importance of Swamiji’s valuable thoughts in the inaugural speech. He said Swamiji was Great Patriot, internationalist, entertaining conversionalist, man with soul of forgiveness, man of action, idealist, stern realist with feet on earth and compassionate companion. He referred to the initiative of Govt. of Maharashtra’s ‘jeevan mulye’ and said that “Swamiji was having all these values in his personality which made him unique.”
Mr. Mohan Shete, in his inspiring speech emphasized on the point that instead of celebrating Death anniversary or birth anniversary of great persons, application of their ‘teachings’ and ‘thoughts’ in our day to day life is important. He shared some anecdotes from Swamiji’s life and his thoughts on building the nation through youth by narrating many incidents from Swamiji’s life like his tour of India, Speech at Chicago and his bereavement. He told that Swamiji’s thoughts which were put up by him around 125 yrs ago are relevant even in today’s practical progressive world. Swamiji gave Indians proper understanding of their country’s great spiritual heritage and thus gave them pride in their past. Swamiji made India a nation with a global mission. While expressing the depth and magnitude of Swamiji’s contribution to mankind Mr. Mohan Shete said,“Swami Vivekananda is a subject of study, research and comprehension and not a subject to just worship and forget.”

Mr. Anand Buddhikot proposed vote of thanks and compeering was done by   Mrs. Yogeshwari Dhannak.
