The Department of Student Welfare in association with
NSS organized a session on ‘Role of women in Social work’ on 31st
October 2020. The session was organized on Google Meet platform because of Covid-19
pandemic. The resource person for the session was the alumna of the college, Ms.
Asmita Pawar, Social worker, Centre for Youth Development Activity (CYDA). Ms. Asmita
is a B.Com graduate and has completed her MSW from Karve Institute of Social
Service. Mr.Nilesh Nemade, Programme officer welcomed the resource person and
all the participants. Dr. Jayshree Bangali,
Student Development Officer introduced the programme.
Ms. Asmita Pawar highlighted the point during her talk
that though it may seem difficult for women to undertake social work due to the
tough schedules, environment and safety concerns, there is no discrimination
between males and females in the area of social work. Both genders are given
equal opportunities.
She gave inputs through her personal journey into
social work, her mother’s encouragement towards her pursuing a career in social
work, etc.
She also discussed the avenues in social work like
counselling, rehabilitation, etc. She also encouraged the students to think of
social work as a career option. She put an emphasis on the fact that in spite
of working for several hours in the corporate sector this profession is the
only one which gives maximum satisfaction to the mind and soul.
Around 60 NSS volunteers attended the session. Mr.
Nilesh Nemade proposed vote of thanks.
