World Mental Health Day
Celebrated at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce
According to the recent survey by the American
Psychological Association, a life is lost every 40 seconds to suicide; yet,
there isn’t sufficient amount of awareness regarding the seriousness of
suicidal tendencies, thoughts and the act of committing suicide. Keeping this
in view, the UN declared Suicide Prevention as a theme to spread awareness globally
this 27th Mental Health Day. To
contribute to it, Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce celebrated this
Mental Health Day like every year on 10 October, 2019. Principal Dr. Ashok
Agrawal felicitated Mrs. Mughdha Shivapurkar, resource person for the session.
Vice Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Faculty members and students were also present
for the same.
Right from the decorations to the activities were
planned and executed by the dynamic second and third year students pursuing
B.A. Psychology. The event began with introducing each other using Chinese
ribbons. It was followed by fun filled Visual and Art Therapy workshop,
activities involving teamwork, sharing one’s insecurities etc. Mrs Mugdha
Shivapurkar also introduced them to small mental health care practices which
they can follow on a daily basis. She was given a souvenir as a token of
appreciation decorated with the students’ experiences and compliments about how
helpful these activities were for them.
Keeping prevention is better than cure as the motto and
with an overall objective of spreading awareness to overcome the stigma of
mental health problems this day was celebrated which became another successful
and memorable event for the college.
