"An excellent speaker must be a good human first." : Dr. Aruna Dhere at Kaveri College



7th Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Elocution Competition held at Kaveri College on12 September 2017 at Shakuntala Jagannath Shetty Auditorium. Renowned literary figure Dr. Aruna Dhere was the Chief Guest of the Prize Distribution Ceremony.  Speaking on the occasion she said, “ Excellent speaker must be a good human first.”  She said that a good speaker’s speech becomes powerful and effective because of his experiences in life, his lofty thoughts, and deep feelings but these thoughts and feelings should not be dry but they should touch the audience’s heart and mind simultaneously.  She also advised students that they should learn to love language as language has its very own beauty and strength, which makes the speaker’s oratory even more effective.  Dr. Dhere advised students that, to be a good speaker they must to pay attention to their body language, range of voice, modulation, and convincing ability etc.


On this occasion, Dr. Aruna Dhere awarded the prizes to successful participants.
Praveen Shinde (Tilak Maharashtra University) bagged the First prize, which consisted of a Rolling Trophy, Rs. 5000/- Cash prize, Memento and a Certificate. Anupam Dwivedi (Sinhgad Law College) and Hetika Gupta (Symbiosis College) were the first and second runners-up respectively. They won Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- Cash prizes, Mementos and Certificates respectively.  In the impromptu competition, Ankit Mishra won the first prize, Umesh Suryavanshi won the Second Prize whereas Pravin Shinde won the third prize.


This competition was started to pay tribute to Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi who was the founder President of Kannada Sangha, The competition was inaugurated by Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha.  Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College said that the Competition has provided an opportunity to participants to hone their oratory, persuasive, and leadership skills. He said that that in its 7th year the Competition has grown in stature and now has become a ‘brand name’ in Pune. Prof. Shweta Bapat, Chairman- Elocution and Debate Committee, told the audience about the purpose of the competition and read our rule for the competition. On this occasion, Mr. Chandrahas Shetty, Trustee of Kannada Sangha, Mr. Suchishmita Mohanty, Vice Principal, Kaveri College, students, teachers and participants were present in large numbers.

 Kannad Sangh's Vice President Mrs. Indira Salian, Secretary Smt. Malti Kalmadi were also present on the prize distribution ceremony. Mrs. Kalmadi appreciated the college's principal and all the teachers for the best planning of the tournament. She asked the audience to believe in art as art help survive the existence of mankind. Dr. Avinash Sangolekar, Dr. Rajendra Shah, Dr. Vaishali Naik were the judges for the competition.  The topics for competition were, 1) Technology and Society 2) Man of the Era:Bal Gangadhar Tilak 3) Doklam : The Test of India’s Patience 4) Marks and Intelligence 5) Changing Lives with Sports

Prof. Priya Deshmukh compered the programme and Prof. Shweta Bapat, Chairman- Elocution and Debate Committee proposed vote of thanks.
