Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Elocution Competition held at Kaveri College

Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Elocution Competition was held at Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Pune on 10th September.  This competition is organized to pay tribute to Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi who was the founder President of Kannada Sangha. This was the 5th year of the competition. The sole purpose of the competition is to provide a platform for budding orators from all over Maharashtra.
The competition was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha. Mrs. Indira Salian Vice-President, Kannada Sangha, Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary,  Kannada Sangha, Mr. B. B. Rao, Treasurer,  Kannada Sangha and Mrs. Radhika Sharma, Trustee,  Kannada Sangha were present for the inauguration ceremony. In his inaugural address, Chief Guest Mr. Kushal Hegde, shared his memories of Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi. He also praised Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty Vice Principal, Ms. Sayee Kulkarni, Chairman, Debate and Elocution Committee and all the staff members for their dedication and hardwork. Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, guided the students and encouraged them to perform well. Ms. Sayee Kulkarni, Chairman, Debate and Elocution Committee briefed the audience about the competition.
The competition got an overwhelming response. 46 students represented 27 colleges from Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Chiplun, Satara, and Solapur for the competition. The competition was held in Marathi and English language. Farmers Suicide – How can we prevent them? And Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam – A great patrioit were the most opted topics. Dr. Vaijayanti Belsare, HoD Philosophy, S P College, Pune; Dr. Shubhashree Kale, HoD Marathi, T. J. College, Khadki, Pune; and Ms. Zeenat Khan, HoD English, Shri Shahu Mandir Mahavidyalaya Pune were the judges for the competition.
The Impromptu Speech Competition was also held during the post-lunch session followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony. In his welcome address, Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, thanked the Management for financial and motivational support. Dr. Sanjay Upadhye, Executive Director Vishwashanti Sangh, World Peace Center, Pune was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony.  He mesmerized the audience with his oratory skills. He captivated the audience attention with jovial and humorous speech. He summed up the participants on the eight essentials to be an excellent orator. The participant should – listen and think in amplitude, recollect his thoughts in tranquility, know his audience, know the subject, understand the scope of the subject, be conceived by the subject, conclude the topic.
Mrs. Pooja Ambole announced the winners of the competition. Ms. Kajal Boraste from HPT and RYK College, Nasik won  the first prize. She got a Rolling Trophy, Rs. 5000/- Cash prize, Memento and a Certificate. Ms. Dimple Sahajwala from Fergusson College, Pune and Mr. Anupam Dwivedi from Sinhagad Law College, were the first and second runners-up respectively. They won Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- Cash prizes, Mementos and Certificates respectively. Ms.Kajal Boraste won the first prize, Ms. Dimple Sahajwala and Mr Anupam Dwivedi won the second and third position for the impromptu competition respectively.
Mrs. Ishita Dixit compered for the programme. Ms. Sayee Kulkarni, Chairman- Elocution and Debate Committee proposed vote of thanks. The programme ended with the recital of Vande Mataram.
