A session on Entrepreneurship in Ecological Sustainability held at Kaveri College


Kaveri Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the college arranged a session on the topic ‘Entrepreneurship in Ecological Sustainibilty on 21st January 2020.  Principal, Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Head- KEDC, Dr. Deepa Sathe, the resource speaker, Ms. Ketaki Ghate and students were present for the same. The session took off after the felicitation of the resource speaker by Dr. Deepa Sathe. She also shared a few words on the goals and objectives of KEDC.
 Ms. Ketaki Ghate has 20 years of work experience. She is the Founder and Managing Partner at Oikos for Ecological Services, an ecological consultancy, established in 2002. She is a trustee at Ecological Society, Pune and working as a Faculty member in Ecological Society. She has bagged awards like, Ramabai Joshi Award in 2006, Uncha Maza Zoka, award by Zee Marathi in 2013, Awani Mitra Award in 2014, Green Enterprise Award in 2019 and many more. ‘We can live without technology but cannot live without ecology’ was her opening statement for the session. She created awareness among students saying there is a great need for the conservation of lands as it is degrading due to human induced activities. Besides, she mentioned that increasing consumerism puts a lot of pressure on land and Oikos works towards healing such lands through native plantations. She also explained how the organisation works with private land owners for nature conservation & ecological restoration. She further said that this is a service sector which needs minimum investment. She motivated the students to find their likings and develop a passion out of it, as a passion results into a good and sustainable career. She concluded the session urging students to take utmost care of Mother Nature. She advised them to consider building a career in ecological services, as along with contributing to a good cause it is relatively a stress free career and gives a sense of job satisfaction as it brings one close to nature.

Haemoglobin Check Up Camp organised at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce


A Haemoglobin check up camp was organised by the Women’s Forum in association with NSS unit of the college on 17 January 2020, for female students as well as female employees, including teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. The activity was conducted with the help of Poona Serological Institute Blood Bank, Pune.  Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice-Principal, and other Faculty members were present for the same. The Haemoglobin level of 122 women was checked and those found with haemoglobin less than normal were advised to eat foods rich in iron and have a balanced diet.

Kaveri College observed Youth Week


On the occasion of Swami Vivekanand’s Birth Anniversary youth week was observed by the NSS Unit of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce from 12th January 2020 to 18th January 2020. During this week several activities were conducted on various topics.
On 12th January 2020, 27 students of our college and all NSS teacher members attended 'Youth Convention'  at Ramakrishna Math, Pune, wherein various informative and impactful sessions like Believe in Yourself,  Strong Determination, Concentration of Mind were attended by the staff and the students. Sessions were conducted by Swami Buddhanand, Swami Krupanand and Dr. Shirish Limaye.
On the next day i.e. on 13th January 2020 a lecture on 'Cyber Safety Awareness' was conducted by NSS volunteers, Atharva Deshpande and Piyush Lachake, students of FY BBA-CA in association with Quick Heal. They spread awareness about cyber security among the students of our college.
On 14th January 2020, cleanliness drive was organised by the NSS department wherein the students of commerce stream participated. The drive was organised to clean college campus which started at 7.45 am.
On 15th January 2020, 'Makar Sankranti' was celebrated by NSS volunteers at 'Matoshri Old Age Home'.  Students while distributing Tilgul to the Senior Citizens also interacted with them. They got to know various facts and formalities of this Old Age Home.
On 16th January 2020, Helmet and Road Safety Awareness was conducted by NSS Volunteers. The event was conducted at Dashabhuja Chowk at 10.30 am.
On 17th January 2020, Blood Donation camp was held in College campus. Students enthusiastically helped and donated blood. Around 50 students donated blood. Free Haemoglobin check up camp for girl students of the college, was also arranged by Women’s Forum in collaboration with NSS unit of the college. The Camp was conducted in association with Poona Serological Institute Blood Bank, Pune.

On 18th January 2020, the session on ‘Importance of Time Management in Daily Life’ was conducted by Dr. Anand Buddhikot, Assistant Professor, Kaveri College for the NSS volunteers. This session helped them understand the significance of Time Management, Goal Setting and importance of time in managing stress.


Yuva Spandan Celebrated at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce


Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce’s cultural extravaganza, Yuva Spandan took place from 7th to 10th January 2020 and was celebrated with great pomp and joy. The inauguration of the event took place at the hands of ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Principal, Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar in the presence of Coordinators, Faculty members and students.
Yuva Spandan started with a fabulous Hat and Tie Day Celebration, Poster Competition and Quiz Competition on 7th January 2020 in the college campus. The theme for Poster Competition was, Sustainability: Planet, People and Profit for which there were 11 participants. The quiz competition consisted of four rounds namely Current Affairs, Identify, Zip Zap and Buzzer Round. Five groups each consisting of two members qualified after facing the elimination. 18 students were part of the elimination round.
The second day 8th January 2020 showcased a spectacular Traditional Day; varieties of traditional attires were presented by the participants.  It was followed by Rangoli and Photo Story Competition. The various themes for the Photo Story Competition were College Katta, Generations, and Friendship. There were 5 participants for the same. Twins Day was followed on 9th January 2020, which was rather a unique idea.
This day was tightly packed with a series of competitions. The first being, Mehendi Competition which had 21 participants who made the competition look like no less than a wedding scene. It was followed by the most exciting, Treasure Hunt Competition consisting of 20 teams, with varying numbers of team members who had great fun in procuring the clues. Mad Adz Competition which marked an end to all the competition of Yuva Spandan had 4 groups who competed against each other. The theme given to them was Sustainable Development and participants had to present funny advertisements on the same.

The last day of Yuva Spandan was celebrated by a grand performance of students at Shakuntal Jagannath Shetty auditorium on 10th January 2020. Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha, Mrs. Indira Salian, Vice President, Kannada Sangha, Mr. Chandrahas Shetty, Trustee, Kannada Sangha graced the occasion with their presence.
The annual Social Gathering was adorned by a variety of dancing and singing performances by the students. The students of Kaveri Studio performed a medley of foot tapping and soulful songs; solo as well as in groups.  The musical performance ended with a jugalbandi of string instruments like acoustic guitar, bass guitar and the sitar.
There were 16 participants for fashion show who walked the ramp on themes like Bollywood and Western outfits. Mrs. Pratiksha Kamthe Mrs. India Empress and Mrs. Fitness Diva judged the competition. Mr. Hrushikesh Yadav from TYBCom won the title of Mr. Kaveri and Ms. Sanjana Karwa FYBA won the title of Ms. Kaveri.  The audience was thoroughly entertained by all the performances.

 


Kaveri Student selected for 17th Thailand International Folklore Festival 2020



Ms. Sidhi Shinde, SY BSc student of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune is selected for the 17th Thailand International Folklore Festival 2020. She is going to represent India, its cultural heritage and Indian folk art at the festival.
Kannada Sangha Pune’s President, Mr. Kushal Hegde, Vice President, Mrs. Indira Salian, and other members congratulated her and wished her best for her future endeavours. Principal, Dr. Ashok Agrawal and Vice Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, teachers and students were also present on the occasion.

Kaveri Students to be part of Guinness World Record


Four students of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce are selected for The Live 1000 World Music Record Event. The event will take place in Mumbai on 24th January 2020 at The Gateway of India. Famous singer and music composer Pritam will guide the participants. This event is an attempt for Guinness World Record and each student will be given a certificate as a holder of Guinness World Record. Shubham Bari, TYBBA – Vocalist,  Shweta Tripathi, FYBBA(IB) – Vocalist, Aashay Inamdar, TYBCA – Guitarist, Eshan Devdhar, FYBCOM – Guitarist, are the participants for the same.

Guest Lecture on ‘Gateway to IIMs’


A guest lecture on ‘Gateway to IIMs’ was organised by the Department of Management, Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce on 2nd January 2020. Mr. Mayur Gawde was the guest speaker for the occasion.  Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, teachers and students were present for the same.
Mayur is an alumnus of Kaveri College and completed B.Com in 2016. He took admission in IIM Udaipur and will be working as a summer intern at UAE Exchange as a Financial Analyst at the Abu Dhabi Head Quarters during April and May, 2020. He discussed with the students various reasons to pursue MBA which included higher salary, creativity, constant networking etc. He also focused on components of MBA entrance exam; Quantitative aptitude (Geometry, Algebra and numerical), Logical reasoning (puzzles, tables etc) and Visual Reasoning (grammar, analogies, idioms and comprehension). He said that the key to crack any entrance exam is to attempt maximum number of mock tests.

The entire focus of the lecture was on various entrance exams for MBA like CAT, XAT, SNAP, NMAT, and MAHCET. He also asked the students to join various Facebook groups which deal with MBA entrance exams. These groups are interactive and help in solving real time problems of the students. Reading news papers and keeping oneself updated about all the happenings from movies to social events helps to score better in the exam. He suggested that the students should solve easy questions first and later attempt the difficult ones.
He also guided the students on GDPI i. e. Group Discussion and Personal Interview. He informed the students that GD and PI are conducted under the common admission process of IIMs. They help to assess the thinking capacity, critical thinking etc. The personal interview scrutinises the personality, lifestyle and the family background of the candidate. The final selection of the student depends on the merit list and academic profile. The lecture was followed by question-answer session.
Around 42 students were benefited from the guest lecture.


Session on Latest Trends in IT Industry and Project Management


Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organised a session on 'Latest Trends in IT Industry and Project Management' under Science Association on 19th December 2019. Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal, Dr Jayshree Bangali, B.Sc. Co-ordinator, Dr Anand Buddhikot, head, Science Association, teachers and students were present for the same.
Mr. Rishikesh Deshmukh a software engineer, informed students about the new and existing technologies like BRD, UI guidelines, coding standard, database and reporting.
Parag Gaikwad, Project Manager, Solution Architect, explained the concept of project management in software industry with different demonstrations. He asked students to learn and develop the required skill set for multi tasking. He further informed about the opportunities in IT Industry.

'No Vehicle Day' at Kaveri College for Environment Conservation and Pollution Control


Student Development Committee and NSS Unit of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized ‘No Vehicle Day' on 30th  and 31st December 2019  with an objective of making the students aware of environment conservation.

The drive was successfully carried out with the cooperation of college professors, non-teaching staff and students. All reached the college by using public transport like bus and rickshaw, while some reached by bicycle. The program was organized with the aim of reducing pollution, making students aware of fuel conservation and avoiding noise pollution. Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal and Vice-Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar appreciated the staff and the students for making this initiative successful.




An Interactive Session on Creativity and Innovation in Entrepreneurship at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce


An interactive session on ‘Creativity and Innovation in Entrepreneurship’ was held on 28th December, 2019 by Kaveri Entrepreneurship Development Cell. Mr. Shrirang Gokhale, Mentor & Technocrat was the resource speaker for the same. Mrs. Soniya Kumbhojkar, Coordinator-KEDC welcomed Principal, Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Head- KEDC, Dr. Deepa Sathe and the speaker Mr. Shrirang Gokhale. Dr. Deepa Sathe felicitated the guest and spoke about KEDC’s goals and activities.
Mr. Gokhale has 35 years of experience at Philips in product design and product development. His experience at Philips motivated him to author a book titled Kalpakteche Divas which centers on key areas like product design, product development, customer satisfaction, innovation and creativity in business.

In the session, he differentiated between a businessman and an entrepreneur. According to him an entrepreneur is an individual who creates and adds value to the product. It is an action oriented activity. He emphasized the importance of idea generation for which one must have imagination and creativity.  In order to polish the right side of the brain which is responsible for creativity he conducted activities like puzzle and crossword solving, reading excerpts of some books etc. He cited instances of Vasco Da Gama, Sinbad the Sailor and made the session interesting. He suggested the students to add ‘Modern Times’ in their watch list and read books like Ek Hota Karvar and Idli, Orchid ani Mi. 23 participants benefited from the session.

A Workshop on Design Thinking at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce


Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized a workshop on Design Thinking on 24th December 2019. Dr. Shweta Bapat, Coordinator of BBA & BBA-IB welcomed Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal and Ms. Archana Pingle, Principal Facilitator and Consultant at Winstar Consulting Pvt. Ltd, Pune. Ms. Archana Pingle was the resource speaker for the workshop.
This workshop was aligned with the Stanford University B-school curriculum and customized with instances of Indian case studies for better understanding of the students. It aimed at making students understand design thinking, its significance and application. The session was interactive and activity based. This workshop was helpful for the students who attended it in upgrading their skills of ideation, innovation, product design, problem solving and lateral thinking. 43 students from BBA and BBA-IB attended the workshop.


Students of Kaveri College placed in Cognizant and Infosys


The Placement Cell of Kaveri College makes sure that its students secure a job during and after graduation or post graduation. It is instrumental in making students aware of the various placement drives happening in and around the city.  On 25th and 26th November 2019, the Cognizant Placement drive was conducted at K. B. Institute, Pune where T.Y. B.Sc (CS) students of Kaveri College, Jigisha Shah, Mayuri Naik, Aishwarya Ambalgikar and Shivani Mhaisekar, got placed at MNC Cognizant with a package of 2.5 Lakhs per annum.
The Infosys Placement drive was conducted at K. B. Institute, Pune on 2nd and 3rd December 2019 where Kirti Page, Gautami Kawade, Bhagyshree Jadhav and Shivani Mhaisekar from T.Y. B.Sc (CS), Kaveri College got placed in Infosys with a package of 2.2 Lakhs per annum.
