Kaveri College successfully organizes an interactive session with World renowned PEN International Writers

As a part of the ongoing 84thPEN International Congress, an interactive session of PEN International writers was organized by Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Art, Science and Commerce on 28thSeptember 2018. 


The world renowned PEN writers, Halina Cieplinska-Binter, Secretary General, PEN Polish Centre, Diana Cousens, poet and photographer, PEN Melbourne Centre, Dr. K.K. Chakravarti, Chairman, Lalit Kala Academy, Linguist and Researcher Dr. Madan Meena, interacted with the students on the theme of ‘Truth, Freedom and Diversity.’ Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kananda Sangha, Mrs. Indira Saliyan, Vice President, Kannada Sangha, Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannada Sangha, Mrs. Radhika Sharma, Joint Treasurer, Kannada Sangha, Dr. Ashok M. Agrawal, Principal, Kaveri College and Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal Kaveri College, were also present on the occasion.  By their presence about 500 students, invitees, and literature lovers made this programme a huge success.
         
   Halena Cieplinska-Binter in her comparative speech on Mahatma Gandhi and American poet Philosopher, Henry David Thoreau said that Thoreau, the father of Civil Disobedience is forgotten by American society but Mahatma Gandhi who imbibed Civil Disobedience very effectively in the struggle of India’s Independence is still being relevant all over the world. She said it is the most appropriate time to talk about Mahatma Gandhi’s values of Truth and non-violence as the world is in dire need of both.
            Dr. K.K. Chakravarti said that today’s society is driven by media and the onus is now on the youngsters to differentiate between truth and fiction. He said that that writers world over are facing a threat to speak truth but they should not succumb to any pressure and continue speaking the truth and give voice to the voiceless. 

   
         Dr. Madan Meena gave information about the People’s Linguistic Survey of India’ which was a mammoth work carried out under the guidance of Dr. Ganesh Devy. He said that over 780 Indian languages got documented because of the survey and that to save Indian languages such efforts in digitalizing them for posterity is of paramount importance.
            Diana Cousens talked about Mahatma Gandhi’s Inter-faith prayers and she recited her poems about Australian aborigines. 
            It was followed by a question-answer session and students asked varied questions on the topic of the relevance of the values of Truth, Freedom

and Diversity.
            Prof. Sayee Kulkarni compered the program and Dr. Muckta Karmarkar proposed the vote of thanks.   

“Entrepreneurship is not a profession but a responsibility.”: Mr. Ameya Agrawal


  
Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce had organized a lecture on ‘Entrepreneurial Spirit - A winning way of life!’ on 15 September 2018. The lecture was conducted under the Kaveri Entrepreneurship Development Centre (KEDC) and Mr. Ameya Agrawal, the 24 years old author of a National Bestseller, A Leap Within, was invited as the Chief Speaker on the occasion.
            
   An engineer, motivational speaker, an entrepreneurship and writing enthusiast, Mr. Ameya Agrawal shared his various passions such as entrepreneurship, writing, motivating etc., with the students. While explaining the difference between entrepreneurship and enterprising, he said, “Entrepreneurship is not a profession but is a responsibility.” He added that “Network is net-worth” in today’s world, and no business is successful without it. He encouraged the students to push their limits, explore new challenges and pursue their dreams relentlessly. Also, Mr. Agrawal conducted management games for the students to make them understand the concept of ‘the survival of the fittest’ in the business world.
               On this occasion, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal, Kaveri College, urged the students to explore the entrepreneurial world and make their own mark. Dr. Deepa Sathe, Head, KEDC, 
informed the audience that KEDC is formed to identify budding entrepreneurs among students and to brace them with necessary skills. Dr. Sathe also said that KEDC is committed to organize such inspirational sessions and lectures for the students. 
      Vaishnavi Deshpande, FY B.Com(B) compared  and  proposed the vote of thanks. The staff members and students were present in large number for the session.

Dr. Shamrao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Competition Held at Kaveri College



Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Elocution Competition was held at Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Pune on 7 September 2018. In its 8th year, the competition has a successful tradition of providing a platform for the students to
hone their oratorical skills, persuasive skills and leadership skills.  

Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha, inaugurated the Competition. Mrs. Indira Salian Vice-President, Kannada Sangha, Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal, Kaveri College, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal, Mrs. Shweta Bapat, Head, Elocution and Debate Committee, were present on the occasion.
Dr. Rajendra Kumbhar, Professor, Library and Information Science, SPPU was the Chief Guest for the prize distribution ceremony. In his address, he appreciated Kannada Sangha and Kaveri College for providing a big platform to participants and thereby keeping the rich tradition of public oratory alive. 
The Competition received stupendous response from the participants. Hrishikesh Deshpande (COEP) bagged the First prize, which consisted of a Rolling Trophy, Rs. 5000/- Cash prize, Memento and a Certificate. Aboli Dhawde (Fergusson College) and Krishna Tawale (Abasaheb Garware College) were the first and second runners-up respectively. They won Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- Cash prizes, Mementos and Certificates respectively.  The topics for the Competition were: 1) Plastic and Environment, 2) J.R.D.Tata : A Visionary of Indian Industry, 3) Changing Educational Scenario and Youth, 4)Indian philosophy and Modern India, and 5) Sports , Sportsman and Sportsmanship.

In the impromptu competition, Krishna Tawale won won the First Prize, Yashwant Khade won the Second Prize whereas Imaad Ul Hasan won the Third Prize.
Dr. Supriya Sahastrabuddhe, Dr. Bhalchandra Kaprekar, and Prof. Vaishali Deodhar were the judges for the Competition.
Prof. Bhakti Dandekar compered the programme and Prof. Shweta Bapat proposed the vote of thanks.

Kaveri College of arts, Science and Commerce signs MoU with Dhaka International University

Kannada Sangha Pune's Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dhaka International University on 8 September 2018 at the 8th World Education Summit, Benguluru. The MoU was signed by Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal, Kaveri College and Dr. K. M. Mohsin, Principal, Dhaka International University to undertake collaborative research and provide experiential learning opportunities to students.


The MoU was signed in the presence of Hon. Dr. Abdul Mannan Chaudhari, Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh, Mr. Alex, MD, Umass Amherst Global USA, Dr. Bholanath, President, MTC GLOBAL, and other dignitaries.

Both, Kaveri College and International University of Dhaka agreed on opening the platform for joint cooperation in areas of research, academic development, and exchange of teachers and students in coming future.

Tremendous Response for LTI Open Pool Campus Drive at Kaveri College


Open pool campus drive of Larsen & Toubro Infotech, A L&T Group Company was organized by Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce on 31st August 2018. The placement drive was held exclusively for BSc and BCA Students. Total 800 students from all over Maharashtra registered for the drive and among them 250 students were shortlisted. Company delegates Mr. Nikhil Govekar Campus Head & Ms.Priyanka Allen HR Senior Executive Campus Team briefed students about rules & policies of company. Mr. Sachin Takalekar in his address said that LTI wants students as blank slates so that they can write their success story on it. Also they encouraged the students to be confident, and be ready to learn to ride the big data waves. Drive started with a Pre-placement talk later on followed with Online Aptitude, Group Discussion, Paragraph Writing and Personal Round.
       
 Principal   Dr. Ashok. M. Agrawal praised and congratulated the placement head Ms.Pallavi Joshi and her team for their untiring efforts in shaping up careers of the students. The participated students thanked the college for providing them an opportunity. All the company officials appreciated the college management, faculty for organizing this event and congratulated the students for their hardwork, knowledge and confidence.

A Session on ‘Yog, Pranayam and Women’s Health’ at Kaveri College



The Women’s Forum of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized a session on ‘Yog,Pranayam and Women’s Health’  for the girl students of the College on 24  August 2018. Renowned yoga therapist and practitioner Mrs. Meenal Joshi was invited as the resource person for
guiding the students about the finer concepts of Yogasanas and providing a guideline for enhancing their inner health. Mrs. Manasi Joshi, Head, Women’s Forum Committee  and Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, former Head, Women’s Forum Committee were also present on the occasion.
Mrs. Meenal Joshi, Certified Yoga Teacher from the university of Pune and  a yoga therapist guided the students on women’s health related issues such as  breast cancer ,menstrual problems, infertility, obesity, stress, Osteoporosis , Endometriosis 8, PCOD/ PCOS, Hypertension and Diabetes. In her address, she said that women are the  pillars of the family and society. Her health is very important and she should not ignore it. As women’s bodies become relatively fragile during pregnancies, meditation and Pranayam really help in keeping the body and the mind strong and healthy.
Mrs. Joshi said that Yog and Pranayam cannot be separated. Soothing Pranayam practices cools the body, releases stress and brings inner peace. She also demonstrated different asanas like Tadasana,Uttrasan, Matsyasan, Sarvangasan among others, which are useful to keep women healthy and happy. Regular and sincere practice of Yog and Pranayam will help women cope with their hectic and stressful life and stay healthy.
The program was followed by question and Answer session in which students participated enthusiastically. The programme received an overwhelming response from the students and about 83 girl students across the various streams of the College attended the session and got benefited from it.

“The youth must turn their attention to untapped markets for business opportunities.” — Mr. Sanjay Orpe.


The Kaveri Entrepreneurship Development Centre (KEDC) of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized an interesting interactive session ‘Tapping…the Untapped’ on 21st August 2018The aim of this session was to make the students aware about the business opportunities in untapped Indian markets
Mr. Sanjay Orpe, Joint Managing Director, Hardikar’s Food Technologies Pvt. Ltd(HFTPL), Pune, was invited as the resource person to share his successful journey in the niche food processing market. Dr. Ashok M. Agrawal, Principal, Kaveri College, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal, Dr. Deepa Sathe, Head, KEDC, were present on the occasion.
Mr. Sanjay Orpe said that there is huge scope for business opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the untapped Indian markets. He shared with the students his successful
entrepreneurial journey by narrating his plunges into various businesses such as HFTPL’s Dehydration Technology, Vedik engineering, Automation, and robotics etc. He also explained to them about the dehydrating techniques of fruits and vegetables, powdering and pulping of Mangoes, Bottle gourds etc. He inspired the students to choose untapped markets for their entrepreneurial dreams and to work with utmost dedication to realize those dreams.
Dr. Ashok M. Agrawal said that the students are tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and he encouraged students by citing the entrepreneurial models of the companies such as Nirlep and Vicco Vajradanti. He urged the students to think out-of-the-box and develop qualities such
as innovative thinking and positive attitude to become successful entrepreneurs. 
Dr, Deepa Sathe explained the purpose behind the formation of KEDC. She said that KEDC is formed to motivate the budding student entrepreneurs and to develop necessary entrepreneurial skills in them. She encouraged students to come forward with their innovative business plans and promised required assistance to make their business plans viable.
The session received huge response from the students. The students from COEP, SP College, Shahu College also attended the session. In question and answer session, the students asked many questions regarding the newer initiatives in the food Processing Industry, job opportunities, success-rate in untapped businesses, etc.
