“Entrepreneurship is not a job but a life style.” Mr. Manish Agrawal at Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony

The annual prize distribution of Kaveri College was held on 12 February 2018. CTO and Co-Founder of Yagna IQ India Private Limited Mr. Manish Agrawal was the Chief Guest of the program. Mr. Kushal Hegde,

President, Kannada Sangha Pune, Mrs. Indira Salian, Vice President, Kannada Sangha, Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannasda Sangha, Radhika Sharma, Treaurer, Kannada Sangha, Mrs. Rashmi Agrawal, Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice Principal, Ms. Sayee Kulkarni, Head, Cultural Committee were the other dignitaries present on the occasion.

Mr. Kushal Hegde informed about Kannada Sangha’s immense contribution in the Field of Education and also shared its successful journey with the audience. He also praised and congratulated the staff of Kaveri College for their untiring efforts in shaping up careers of the students.

Dr. S.B. Kharosekar presented the Annual Report for the academic year 2016-17. He praised the management for their unfailing support and encouragement for the college to set new benchmark in excellence in education sector. Dr. Kharosekar informed the dignitaries and parents about the various curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular activities conducted by the College throughout the year. Mrs. Malati Kalmadi encouraged the students to not only dream big but also to concentrate, work hard with passion to realize that dream.  

The Chief Guest Mr. Manish Agrawal said that the first five years in a young professional’s life are as important as the first five years in a small baby’s life. He said that these are the formative years of their

professional, personal and social life and hence they should utilize these initial years to the fullest. Mr. Agrawal asked students to become an entrepreneur, and a job provider than a job seeker. He said that, “Entrepreneurship is not a job but a life style,” and  that job finishes while lifestyle stays.  He said the students must enjoy life but at the same time, work hard, show immense patience and stay hungry and stay foolish to achieve their goals. Mr. Agrawal urged students to stay away from the Social Media and channelize their energy to be happy and successful in life.

Mrs. Rashmi Agrawal said that Love, Truth, and Passion drive one to become successful in life. She said that it

is still very difficult for women professionals to break the glass ceilings at the workplaces. She said women have every right to choose a job of their choice. If they choose family over job then for that too they should give their 100 percent as every job demands complete dedication irrespective of one’s gender.

Two outgoing students Rucha Joshi and Prajakta Sahastrabuddhe shared their experiences of spending three

glorious years with Kaveri College. They got emotional while narrating the anecdotes, events and experiences of their association with Kaveri College. Prizes were distributed to the students in various categories such as academics, sports, NSS, cultural awards, inter-college awards, Endowment awards, Special awards, etc.

           

            Mr. Archit Joshi of TYB.Sc. received the Best Outgoing Student award; Mr. Sidharth Gantara of TYBCOM bagged the Best All-rounder Student Award. While Ms. Gargi Date, TYBA was chosen as the ‘Most Outstanding Student’ for the Vishnu Moreshwar Karmarkar Award and Mr. Vaibhav Kadbhane Patil,

TYBCOM was chosen for the prize of ‘Most Outstanding Sportsmen’ of the year for the Sunita Vishnu Karmarkar Award. Ms. Akanksha Shinde was awarded with ‘Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Award for the Most Meritorious Student’ with Rs. 2500/- and Ms. Sukhada Joshi, former student, TYBSc(CS) was given a scholarship of Rs. 11000/- in the memory of ‘Late Shri Ramesh Khode’. The Best NSS Volunteer Award was won by Ms. Harshada Khaladkar, SYBA and Yash Pawar, SY.B.Sc. 

            

Dr. Geetanjali Pitre and Dr. Deepa Sathe were felicitated for receiving the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) at the hands of Mr. Kushal Hegde. Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Dr. Jayashree Bangali, Mrs. Shweta Bapat, Mrs. Manasi Joshi and Mrs. Bhakti Dandekar were also felicitated for presenting research papers in the International Conferences. The Non-teaching staff, Mr. Tushar Parte and Ms. Aarati Kadam were also felicitated for their outstanding contribution towards the College. Ms. Priya Deshmukh compeered the program and Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice- Principal gave a vote of thanks. 

Two Days National Level Workshop On IoT & Data Science

Computer Science & Applications Department Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri College of Atrs, Science, and Commerce conducted a Two days workshop on ‘IoT & Data Science’ on 2nd and 3rd February, 2018 under the Quality Iimprovement Programme of SPPU.

                       

  Dr. Lalit Kathpalia, Dirctor, Symbiosys institute of Computer Studies and Research (SICSR) was the Chief Guest for the inauguration of the workshop. Mr. Kushal Hegde,  President, Kannada Sangha, Pune, Dr. S B. Kharosekar, Principal, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice principal, Mr. Chittaranjan Mahajan, President, Dolphin Educational and Research Society, Director, Dolphin Labs, Pune,  Ms. Sujata Bachhav, convener of National Level workshop, participants, staff members and students were present for the inauguration.

Dr. S B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri college in his welcome speech informed the audience about the successful journey of Kaveri College and gave information about the stupedous success of Kannada Sangha’s all institutes.

In his inaugural speech the Chief Guest Dr. Lalit Kathpalia praised Kannada Sangha for its progressive management and holistic student centric activities. He said that Internet of Things(IoT) has made our lives easier and also has made the world a better place to live. Mr. Kathpalia said that IoT has its own share of concerns such as breach of privacy, security of data/content, compatible firewalls, etc. He said the future belongs to IoT and will bring tremendous changes in our lifestyle.

 Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha, Pune formally inaugurated the workshop & shared his thoughts with the audience. Ms. Sujata Bachhav, Convener of National Level workshop threw light on the schedule of all sessions of two days workshop and also proposed a vote of thanks.

Mr. Chittaranjan Mahajan started the first session with exploring the terms and the requirements of the IoT. He explained about Hardware Selection, Operating System Selection and Software Selection. He said that IoT will solve major problems faced by people such as pollution, traffic congestion and shortage of energy supplies etc. By installing sensors and using web applications, citizens can find free parking slots across the city.  IoT is also being used in agriculture and farmers are using meaningful insights from the data to yield better return on investments, sensing for soil moisture and nutrients, controlling water usage for plant growth etc.

On the second day, Dr. Parikshit Mahalle, Professor and Head, Department of Computer engineering, Sinhgad Technical Education Society’s Smt. Kashibai Navale College of Engineering, Pune explored the topic ‘Big Data Management in IoT’ explained the contribution of IoT in huge data generation and his main focus was on analysis of big data.  He also discussed research topics on big data management. Data science is all about making a scene out of Bulks of data generated from IOT.

Idea Generation Camp

Department of Management organised ‘Idea Generation Camp’ on 24 January 2018, in association with Board of Student Development, SPPU and Business Ethics Foundation Pune. 

Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannada Sangha, Pune, Dr. Balajith Shetty, Trustee Kanada Sangha, Pune, Dr. S. G. Bapat, Founder President Business Ethics Foundation, Pune and Dr. S. B. Kharosekar Principal graced the inauguration function of the camp. Dr. Rashmi Hebalkar and Mrs. Pallavi Kasande from Business Ethics Foundation were the resource persons of the camp. 

The camp was open for undergraduate students of all streams. The camp received very good response from various colleges like Modern College, Ganeshkhind, Huzurpaga Mahila Vanijya Mahavidyalay, BMCC, Siddhivinayak College, SNDT, Symbiosis college of Arts and Science. Total 76 students attended the camp. 

This camp aimed at training students to recognize, understand and generate business ideas and also to evaluate those ideas with the feasibility criteria. The s

tudents were introduced to the various idea generation techniques such as brainstorming, lateral thinking etc. They were made aware of ecosystem of entrepreneurship to evaluate an idea and convert that idea into a business opportunity. Various management games, activities, debriefing of the activities and group discussions were conducted in the camp.

Inter-college Paper Presentation Competition

The Management Department of Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce had conducted the 9th Inter-Collegiate Paper Presentation Competition on 23.1.18.

Total 7 teams from different colleges participated in the event. The inauguration of the competition took place at the hands Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Mrs. Shweta Bapat, Coordinator-Management Department, other staff members and students were present on the occasion.

Principal Dr. S.B.Kharosekar in his speech mentioned that this generation of students are indeed fortunate to get opportunities to conduct research and present it with the help of such competitions organized by the colleges. He said Paper presentation leads to overall development of the student and hence such competitions should be conducted often.

Mrs. Shweta Bapat welcomed the Judge, Dr. Sonali Parchure, Associate Professor-HNIMR. Dr. Parchure encouraged students to participate in such competitions as they help them in giving broader vision, scientific perspective and competitive spirit.  

Mr.Bhavik Shah and Ms. Akshata Jori from BMCC won the first prize for their project titled ‘Modern Payment Systems’

Project Exhibition Organized by Commerce Department

The department of Commerce of Kaveri College of arts science and commerce under Kaveri Research and Innovation Centre had organized Project Exhibition on 16th  January 2018. The exhibition was inaugurated Dr. Mahesh Thakur, Director- CSR Cell, Karve Institute Pune. Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannada Sangha, Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice Principal, Mrs. Deepa Sathe, Co-ordinator Commerce, Staff members and Students were present on the occasion.

Dr. Mahesh Thakur, in his inaugural speech informed students about various ongoing CSR projects by reputed companies like LG, Zensar, Cummins India Ltd. Etc. He cited examples of CSR projects giving Innovative solutions in the field of agriculture production and development of tribal areas. He also emphasized on the need to conserve energy, segregation of the waste, kitchen waste management, appropriate waste disposal projects. He appealed students to come together and work for the environmental projects for CSR activities of various companies.

Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannada Sangha appreciated student’s efforts and their willingness to contribute towards the society’s wellbeing. Dr. S. B. Kharosekar in his address congratulated the students for their participation, enthusiasm and awareness about the environment.  

Total 225 students of SYBCOM formed teams and worked with different environmental NGOs from Pune City such as Euonia Therapy, Change We Need, Jeevit Nadi Foundation, Green Life, Change Together We Can, Green Thumb, and Sagar Mitra etc.  Based on their findings, the students submitted about 50 group-projects out of which, 23 projects were selected for the presentation. Their projects were based on various environmental issues such as Sanitary Waste Management, Tree Plantation and Tree Nurturing, Segregation of Plastic, E-Waste, Recycle and Reuse, Afforestation, Improving Green cover, Cleaning of Historical Places, Water Segregation, Khadakwasla Dam Rejuvenation etc.

Electronics Project Model Exhibition receives overwhelming response

To inculcate research culture among students the Department of Electronics of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce had organized an Electronics Project Model Exhibition on 16th January 2018. The Exhibition was organized by Kaveri Research and Innovation Centre (KRIC) and Electronics Department of Kaveri College.

Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannada Sangha, Pune inaugurated the exhibition. In her inaugural speech she said that the students must set measurable goals in life. She also asked them to identify their true potential and be creative and innovative in their thinking. Mrs. Kalmadi appreciated the students for effectively exhibiting their subject knowledge by making projects on different topics. She congratulated all the students for their best efforts. Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice-Principal, Kaveri College, Dr. Jayashri Bangali, Head, KRIC and coordinator B.Sc, Staff members and Students were present on the occasion.

The exhibition received an overwhelming response from the students. Total 25 students from Electronics Department presented projects on topics such as Automatic Sliding Door, Basic Electronic Voting Machine, Stopwatch, Digital Temperature Indicator, PIR Light Controller, Alcohol Detector, PIR: Security Alarm, Traffic Signal Controller, Solar Powered Power Bank, Pressure Indicator, Musical Door Bell and Electronic Board, Glowing LED, etc.

Under the Kaveri Research and Innovation Center, students from BBA, B.Sc. (Computer Science), BCom, M.Sc. (Computer Science) presented 12 projects such as Effects of Smart Phone on Students, Human Machine Interface, Street Light Controller, FM Radio

Transmitter, Touchless Door Bell, Smart Network, Sanitary Waste Management, Afforestation, Water Level Indicator, Anti Accident Blinker, etc. The exhibition was a grand success and gave a good opportunity for the students to express their abilities and to work in collaboration.

GST-Awareness Seminar held at Kaveri College

            The Department of commerce of Kaveri college of Arts,Science and Commerce and Board of Students Development, Savitribai Phule Pune University(SPPU) jointly organized One Day Seminar on ‘GST-Awareness’ on 11th January 2018. Dr. S.B. Kharosekar in his inaugural speech guided the students on the role and importance of GST. He said Because of the stupendous response received for

the seminar on GST conducted for faculty of different colleges the college has taken this step of conducting the seminar for the second time especially for the students of different colleges. He added that GST has hailed as the most significant tax reform and uniform tax regime that replaces all other indirect taxes such as VAT, Excise and Service Tax. GST envisages that all transactions and processes will be done only through electronic mode. This will minimize tax payers' physical interaction with the tax officials. Vice Principal, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Mrs. Deepa Sathe, Convener and Hod, Commerce Department, Mr. Anand Buddikot Head, Student Development Officer, Staff members and Students were also present on the occasion.

The Seminar started with the session of CA Mr. Subodh Shah, Chartered Accountant and Managing Director at Excellent Professional Academy Pvt. Ltd, who spoke on the background of

GST and the journey so far. He said The Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was imposed on July 1 last year, radically changed many things in Indian economy. GST is one indirect tax for the whole nation, which will make India one unified common market. Mr. Shah said that e-way bill will remove the necessity to have a transit pass. At present, one needs multiple transit passes if the goods are moving through many states. But under the e-way bill system, even if the goods are moving from Delhi to Kerala, only one e-way bill will be generated.”

The second session was by CMA Narhar.K.Nimkar, He said when a person is importing goods and the goods are purchased from unregistered vendor, the person is liable to pay reverse charge. Cascading (Tax on Tax) effect is eliminated completely; this is one of the biggest advantages in taxation. All the operations are through GST portal only. Valuation rules are simplified. He concluded by saying One Nation One Tax- GST is the national single tax having different variations.

The third session was by C.A Abhishek Dhamne and he spoke on the procedural and administration of GST. He made the participants aware of the various job opportunities under GST.

The Seminar received tremendous response from the participants. Total 75 participants from different colleges of Pune and 69 students from Kaveri College attended the seminar. Overall all the three sessions very informative and the event was grand success under the guidance of Ms Deepa Sathe, and the support faculty and staff members.

The Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science, and Commerce under the Bahishal Shikshan Mandal, in association with Savitribai Phule Pune University had jointly organized the Dr. Babasaheb Jaykar Lecture Series from 15 to 17 January 2018.  Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri college inaugurated the series and in his inaugural speech urged students to avail opportunities such as the Jayakar Lecture Series where renowned people are invited to speak on various inspiring topics. He asked them to make reading a habit and also to imbibe the qualities of great people in their day-to-day life. Ms Suchismita Mohanty, Vice principal, Kaveri College, Mr. Sachin Devkate, NSS Program Officer, Mr. Anand Buddhikot, Student Development Officer, MRs. Shilpa Khadilkar, Head, Bahishal Shikshan Mandal, Staff members and students were present on this occasion.

In the first session, renowned multifaceted personality Manjiri Dhamankar spoke on the topic ‘Sant Sahitya ani Dainandin Jeevan.’ She said, “A true saint is the one who not only elevates himself but also reform people at large.” She said real Dharma or religion is anything that upholds a positive order. She talked about rich saint-literature of Maharashtra and gave examples and anecdotes from the lives of great saints of Maharashtra such as Sant Tukaram, Namdeo, Dnyaneshwar, Ramdas Swami. She said that we must not forget that whatever we are doing has a force behind it, and bowing to that force is Adhyatma (Spirituality). She said we will attain complete proficiency in a particular work only if we lose ourselves in doing that work.

Ms. Swati Dodmise in her lecture on Communication skills informed students that great speakers are not born but they are trained to be one. She stressed on 7Cs of communication and said that communication must be Clear, Concise, Concrete, Correct, Coherent, Complete and Courteous. She asked them to practice tongue twisters and Sanskrit Shlokas for clear pronunciations. 

In the third session, Mr. Sanjeev Katke spoke on the topic ‘Swatantryachi Aishi-Taishi.’ He focused on the pre and post independence history of India and lamented that we Indians just read the history but never try to understand it. He said we as citizen are acting against the rule of law and that is why today in our society we are fighting corruption, discrimination, inequality, injustice and violence against women etc. He said all these ills of society can be rectified if we as individual citizen follow our duties and know our rights.

            Prof. Geetanjali More compered the program and Prof. Chaitra Uchil presented a vote of thanks.  The lecture series received a good response from the students. 

Successful organization of “Dnyan-Vidnyan Vachan Chalwal” Lecture series

    

Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science & Commerce and Bahishal Shikshan Mandal, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) had jointly organized “Dnyan ViDnyan Vachan Chalwal” Lecture Series from 14^th December to 16^th December, 2017. The Lecture Series was

organized to inculcate reading habits among students. Renowned speakers—Prof. Vaijayanti Chiplunkar, Dr. Karnika Vyas, Dr. Rajendra Kankaria  were invited to guide students about reading habits and culture. Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College presided over and inaugurated the lecture series. In his inaugaral speech Dr. Kharosekar guided students on the importance of reading books and urged them to read books of renowned, successful, and inspiring people from different parts of the world and imbibe their knowledge and wisdom in their own respective lives. 

In the first session, Prof. Vaijayanti Chiplunkar spoke on the book ‘Kimayagar’ written by Dr. Achyut Godbole. She said that through this book Dr. Godbole tried to explore the lives of great scientists  who were wizards and contributed immensely towards the betterment of human race. She presented interesting facts about Albert Einstein, Charles Goodyear, and Varaha Mihira and talked about how their discoveries changed humankind. Prof. Chiplunkar said, “These scientists had chosen the most difficult path and with their reletless efforts and perseverence humankind has obtained its glorious heritage and culture. She asked students to get inspired from the life-stories of these science wizards by reading about them.

In the  second session Dr. Karnika Vyas discussed about the book ‘How Brain Works?’ by Mark. Wm. Dubin. She said that the book talks about the functions and disfunctions of the most

complex machine, i.e. human brain. She explained aout the basic structure of brain like Frontal Lobe, Parietal Lobe ,Temporal Lobe ,Occipital Lobe and cerebellum. Dr. Vyas informed that the period 1990 to 2000 is called as the decade of the brain because the field of neuroscience made rapid development during this period.

In the third session, Dr. Rajendra Kankariya spoke on the book “Timeeratun Tejakade” written by renowned anti-superstition activist, rationalist and author Dr. Narendra Dabholkar. He said that Dr. Dabholkar believed that only Vichar(Thinking),

Aachar(Action) and Siddhant (Principles) can bring humankind out of the clutches of  superstitions, blackmagic, and godmen. Dr. Kankariya made students aware about the trickery of godmen and dubious trantiks who decive gullible pooer people by citing suitable examples from the book. He said that Dr. Dabholkar gave his life fighting against such superstiotions and the people who propogated them.

Huge response to a Dance and Movement Therapy Session organized by Arts Department

Kannada sangha’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science & Commerce and Board of Student Development, SPPU had jointly organized a Dance and Movement Therapy(DMT) Session on 18^th December 2017.

The session was organised by the Arts department of KAveri College and  received a huge response from the students who are studying Psychology in different colleges across Pune. The Session was organized to make students aware about the

DMT therapy which is used in order to achieve emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration.

Principal Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, praised the initiative and cited the importance of such sessions for the overall development of students. The session was conducted by Ms. Avantika Malhautra (Psychologist and Expressive Art Therapist) and Ms. Aarohi Doshi (Psychologist and Dance and Movement Therapy Facilitator), from Artsphere Pune. The co-ordinator of Arts Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, and the staff members of Faculty of Arts, were also present on the occasion.

Ms. Avantika Malhautra and Ms. Aarohi Doshi informed the students about DMT and its benefits for both physical and mental health, By using different props such as Ribbons, Newspapers, Charts and sketchpens they explained the students how DMT can be used for stress reduction, disease prevention, and mood management. A Body movement and Name choreography activities were also carried out to make them understand about the range of emotions and body image.

The DMT session received huge response and about 56 students from Fergusson College, M.E.S Garware College, Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Nowrosjee Wadia College, Modern College, Ramkrishna More College and Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce participated in the session.         

 The co-ordinator of Arts Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, and the staff members of Faculty of Arts, were also present on the occasion.The session concluded with students giving feedback about the session and certificate distribution. Ms. Gauri Gokhale read the session report. Ms. Mugdha Shivapurkar presented the vote of thanks.

“Accepting that there are problems in life is not a complex.” Dr. Shruti Panse

Lifelong Learning and Extension Unit of Kaveri College of Arts, Science & Commerce in association with Savitribai Phule Pune University arranged one-day workshop on Adolescence Education on 10 January 2018. Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College inaugurated the workshop and in his inaugural speech he said that adolescence is most productive period in an individual’s life and students must utilize this period for their personality development by evenly balancing their brain, heart and body activities. He urged them to be inquisitive, introspective and asked them to find their own limitations and ways to overcome them. 

Mrs.Suchismita Mohanty, Vice Principal, Ms. Sonali Joshi, Coordinator (In-charge), Lifelong Learning and Extension Unit of Kaveri College were also present on the occasion.

Renowned educational consultant Dr. Shruti Panse conducted the first session on the topic ‘Mental Health and Youth’ and said that mental health depends on emotions. She focused on youth’s emotional problems and said that youth today are facing many problems but are afraid to share them. She said, “Youngsters today are living in denial mode but it is high time that they accept that there is problem in their life and they need to open up about it.” Dr. Panse focused on how to handle emotions and explained the working of brain while dealing with emotions. She said with the help of Triune Brain Theory of Dr. Paul Maqlin emotions can be dealt with. She urged students to not solve their emotional problems by themselves but instead take help of someone whom they can willingly confide in.

Dr. Vaishali Deshmukh, the In-Charge of ‘Nine-to-Nineteen Clinic’- a special clinic for adolescents at Deenanth Mangeshkar Hospital conducted the second session on the topic ‘With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.’ She said that young adults are aware of their rights but avoid thinking about the responsibilities that come with it. They have a lot of physical power and thinking power but they are unable to face challenges. She made students aware of responsible personal behavior, sexual behavior, cyber behavior and social behavior, as they are the key to personal growth.

The workshop received great response from the students. Ms. Shweta Bhagat Compered the program and Ms. Sonali Joshi presented a vote of thanks.
