Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi State Level Elocution Competition at Kaveri


Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organised the 9th Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi State Level Elocution Competition on 16th September, 2019. The Competition was inaugurated at the hands of Mrs. Indira Salian, Vice- President, Kannada Sangha, Pune  in the presence of Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal and Vice- Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar. Mrs. Salian who was also the Chief Guest for this session boosted the enthusiasm of the participants saying, one should embrace opportunities with open arms, be fearless and speak ‘Bindass’. Principal in his address, briefed everyone present on the progressive journey of the College which was followed by a vote of thanks given by the Vice- Principal. Participants got a chance to choose from a plethora of interesting topics like Sustainable Development- Social and Economical, Lokmanya Tilak- Man of the Era, Image on Social Media- Myth or Reality, Saints of Maharashtra and Social Upliftment, Vision India 2047. Students from all over Maharashtra from different colleges and universities like MIT, SPPU, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Bharati Vidyapeeth University, SNDT University, etc eagerly took part in it. 40 participants used the platform to share their views. Later,11 participants registered for impromptu, Marathi and English were the medium of expression for both the sessions. Dr. Supriya Sahastrabuddhe, Mrs. Vrushali Deodhar and Dr. Balchandra Kaprekar.
Dr. N.M. Joshi, renowned writer and the founder member of Maharashtra Sahitya Pratishthan was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. Being a multilinguist himself, he emphasised upon the significance of knowing multiple languages for becoming an effective speaker. Participants who secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were Sanjiwani Somase from Abasaheb Garware College, Pune, Aniket Sawant from M.P. Law College, Aurangabad and Nikhil Belote from Abasaheb Garware College, Pune. They bagged a cash prize worth Rs. 5000 and the prestigious rolling trophy, Rs.3000 along with a trophy and Rs.2000 along with a trophy respectively. For the Impromptu 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranks were bagged by Nikhil from Abasaheb Garware College, Pune, Shravan Shinde from Indira College of Commerce and Science, Pune and Soureesh Patil fromCOEP. They were awarded with Rs. 500, 300 and 200 as cash prize respectively. Dr. Joshi congratulated all the participants and appreciated their enthusiasm. The programme was a huge success and was concluded by a formal vote of thanks.

Placement Cell Programme in Association with T.I.M.E.in Kaveri


Placement cell of the Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organised a session on preparation of different placement opportunities engaging the students of SY and TY in association with T.I.M.E, Pune from 9th to 11th  September 2019. Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal inaugurated the session in the presence of Vice- Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Centre Director Dr. Sriram Joshi and Director Mr. Anand Joshi from T.I.M.E. Principal in his address advised the students to build their profile in a way that will guarantee them placements and mentioned the need for making oneself adaptable according to the needs of varied range of industries.
These sessions included guidance on various topics like Profile Building, Verbal and Critical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude. SY and TY students were guided by Dr. Shriram Joshi and Mr Anand Joshi respectively on Profile Building. They also suggested the students to learn the art of time management, academic improvement to prepare for competitive exams. They further discussed with them the opportunities available after qualifying the exams. The following session was conducted by Mr. Vishal Nandgiri who took hands- on exercises to give an idea about how to answer verbal questions. The last session was conducted by Mr. Narendra Kulkarni who taught the students skills to solve Quantitative Aptitude problems in lesser span of time. Students had a fulfilling experience with all the knowledge imparted in these sessions. 135 students actively participated in the programme.

Swacch Bharat Abhiyan by NSS Unit of Kaveri



On Saturday 7th September 2019, NSS unit of Kaveri in association with Management Guru, Mumbai Dabbawala arranged a Kapada Bank drive, where people donated clothing, garments for the destitute. Besides, under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Nirmalya Collection Drive was conducted at Dashbhuja Ganapati Temple on the same day which continued till 12th September.
On this occasion Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Subhash Talekar, President of Dabbawala Association, Mumbai who is also a brand ambassador of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, his associates Mr.Vitthal Sawant and Mr.Anant Talekar actively participated in it and successfully carried forward the drive. Simultaneously a cleanliness drive was also conducted in the college campus where in Principal Sir, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar Vice-Principal, Dr. Jayshree Bangali, Mr. Nilesh Nemade, Programme officer NSS, Mrs. Manasi Joshi, Asst. Programme officer and other NSS volunteers took part in it, with high spirit in an attempt to make the campus spotless. The day proved to be eventful spreading awareness across the town and also served the purpose of commemorating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Start Ups Succeeds only when They Own Their Idea and Business with Passion!


Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce had organised an Inter College Business Idea Competition under the KEDC (Kaveri Entrepreneurship Development and Start Up Cell) on 29th August 2019 and received noteworthy response from more than 17 teams from the prime institutions across Pune including Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, AISSMS IOM, RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering, Christ College, SKVCCC and Army Law College.
At the Inauguration, Dr. Deepa Sathe, Head KEDC informed the participants the purpose of conducting this competition and the role of KEDC in creating a platform for the students to nurture their innovative ideas. There was a vivid diversity in the concepts presented by all the participating teams such as ideas pertaining to crude oil, nutritious cafes, software engineering, use of solar devices, hand free umbrella, ASKPRO (online portal), commercialisation of housemaids and exploring the use of technology.
The competition was judged by Mr. Sanjay Orpe, Managing Director of Oem Ekvira Media Pvt. Ltd, Project Director at multiple institutes and Joint MD at Hardikar’s Food Technologies Pvt. Ltd and Dr. Jyoti Gogte, Academician, Ph. D guide, Author in Entrepreneurship Development & Start Ups and Core Mentor of ‘De Asra Foundation’. During their remarks, Mr. Orpe appreciated that most of the ideas have offered the solution on agricultural, socio-economic problems. He mentioned that most of the start Ups fails because of the incorrect mindset and the lack of ownership towards the funds and resource deployment. Dr. Gogte emphasised on having Passion, Right Mindset with Right Attitude and also discussed the criterias for systematic presentation focusing on Scalability, Feasibility, Target Customer, Market Survey and Financial plan.
At the Valedictory, Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal- Kaveri College in his address mentioned the need of Start Ups for helping the community to resolve their problems in products or services. He appreciated the efforts of the participants and congratulated the winners and ensured them the necessary support and mentorship would be provided at Kaveri College for all budding entrepreneurs across Pune.  From amongst the participants, First prize – Certificate and Cash Prize of Rs. 750/- was bagged by Namrata Kuvar and Prajakta Deshmukh from AISSMOS IOM, for their ‘Nutritious Cafe’ business idea plan and was also appreciated as ‘IDEA WITH BEST PLAN’.  Second prize – certificate and cash prize of Rs. 500/-  bagged by Nidhi Lohar, Parisha Shah and Prabhuta Pandey from Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce, whose idea presentation was also appreciated as   ‘IDEA WITH GOOD FUTURE’ for their product ‘Kakavisparsh’ and
Third prize – certificate and cash prize of Rs. 300/- was bagged by Bishal Barnwal from Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce along with special appreciation as ‘EXCELLENT IDEA’ for his product, Handsfree Umbrella. All the participants received certificates

A Workshop on, ‘Preparation of MPSC/ UPSC Examination’


 The workshop on ‘Preparation for MPSC / UPSC Examination’ was jointly organized by Vocational Guidance Cell and Kaveri Skill Development Cell of the College on 28 August 2019.

Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice-Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, resource person Mr. Pandurang Kotule and Mr. Vijaykumar Shinde, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, head, KSDC and Mrs. Pallavi Joshi, Chairperson, Vocational Guidance Cell were present for the workshop.

Mrs. Mohanty welcomed the resource person and the students for the workshop.

Principal in his address, talked about the responsibilities and working nature of any administrative service officer. Sir said that one can bring any administrative reforms for the betterment of the society without making changes in the constitution. He explained this by giving the examples of Mr. T. N. Sheshan and Lakhina pattern named after Mr. Anil Kumar Lakhina etc.

Mr. Pandurang Kotule shared the pattern of UPSC examination. He informed the students about names of the subjects and how to prepare for those subjects. He also informed that the administrative service officer has to always keep in mind future of the citizens while taking any decision. Everyone needs to build that courage over a span of preparation for the examination.

Mr. Vijaykumar Shinde guided the students for preparation of MPSC examination. He suggested the students to be serious about this exam and keep a goal to at least grab one post. He further added that, if students are able to grab the post then they can improve further to reach a better position in administrative services. When students appear for the last stage of examination which is interview, ‘Presence of mind is the key to success’ he said. In all 45 students attended and benefited from the workshop.

Mr. S. Nallamuthu visits Kaveri


Mr. S. Nallamuthu an internationally acclaimed wildlife photographer, cinematographer and film maker graced Kaveri College with his presence for the screening of his award winning film Clash Of Tigers on 23rd August, 2019 which was organised by the Photography Club of the college. Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Mr. Karanraj Gujar a wildlifer and Mr. Prashant Kothadia Chief Executive at Add-Venture Foundation were also present for the same.

 This film is about tigers in the wilderness of Ranthambore. It was released in several regional languages across India so that it could successfully create awareness in the minds of common man, who can actively partake in the conservation of tigers and prevent the extinction of this species, hence this film was shown to the students. Dr. Ashok Agrawal in his speech emphasised on the importance of environment preservation for sustainable development and highlighted the significance of wildlife in striking a balance in our environment which enriched the students.
Later that day, Mr. S. Nallamuthu’s film was screened which proved to be informative and enlightening for both the students and the faculty members which was followed by an interactive session.

Celebration of ‘National Sports Day’ in Kaveri College


On the occasion of ‘National Sports day’ on Thursday, 29th August 2019, Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce had organised ‘Free Body Fat % Check-up Camp’ for all students and Staff Members. This programme was arranged under ‘Fit India Movement’ launched by Hon. Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi. The objective of this camp was to encourage all to be healthy.
 In this programme health check up including height,weight, body fat,B.M.R.and B.M.I.of teachers and students was done along with guidance.
Principal Dr.Ashok Agrawal and Vice Principal Dr.Muckta Karmarkar graced the occasion and guided all. This camp was conducted under the guidance and initiation of Mr. Rohit Tambe ,Director,Physical Education of Kaveri College.
The program received a huge response in terms of participants, and the count crossed 100.


‘Road Safety Awareness Programme Organised At Kaveri College’


NSS unit of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce had organized a session on ‘Road Safety Awareness Programme’ in association with ‘Maharashtra Traffic Police Branch’ on 29th August 2019.  Mr. Nilesh Nemade,  NSS Programme officer welcomed Mr. Rajesh Puranik, Police Inspector, Traffic Branch and his colleagues, Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice Principal Dr.Muckta Karmarkar  and all the staff members and the  students. Programme started with ‘Sadak Suraksha Song’ by NSS volunteers.
On this occasion , Principal  addressed all the students. He asked students to avoid rash driving. He appealed all to wear helmet and follow traffic rules while driving. He assured Mr. Puranik on behalf of students that they will extend helping hand to the traffic department whenever required and students will follow traffic rules.
Mr. Puranik in his address asked the students to follow traffic rules while driving. He shared the statistics of yearly deaths because of road accidents. He appealed students to channelize their energy and avoid keeping themselves occupied with gadgets  while driving. He also asked students not be selfish while helping the injured people in road accidents. He mentioned about the ‘Satark Punekar’ app and how it works. He further asked all to be a part of solutions and not a problem. He also shared the toll-free Nos. of ambulance, women safety, senior citizen and child abuse’ etc. He shared his experience of many road accidents which were an eye opener for the students.
He also showed videos on ‘India Vs. USA’ Traffic, ‘Distractions’ etc. His session was interactive  and was very informative as well. Programme was concluded with ‘National Anthem’. Mrs. Manasi Joshi, Assistant Programme officer of NSS proposed vote of thanks.
