Open Pool Campus of Mphasis Ltd. & Toppr Technologies at Kaveri College

Placement Cell of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce conducted an open pool campus drive of Mphasis Ltd. & Toppr Technologies on 22 January 2020. This drive was conducted for B. Sc. (CS), BCA, B.Com, BBA and BBA (IB) final year students of Kaveri and other colleges. Students from Modern College, Fergusson College, KB Joshi Institute, Sinhgad College, Wadia College, SP College, SNDT College, Satara were present for the drive. 200 students were registered for the drive and 110 students appeared for the open pool campus.

Campus drive was started with pre-placement talk by Mr. Sarfaraz Khan, Senior officer – HR (Talent Acquisition Group), MPhasis. Principal Dr. Ashok Agarwal, Vice-Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Ms. Divya Gaikwad from Toppr Technologies, teaching staff and all the registered students were present for this talk. Mr. Sarfaraz informed the students about the work culture at Mphasis. He gave job description of the vacant posts. He also informed the students that the company promotes lateral as well as vertical growth of the employees by providing Internal Job Posting (IJP). He also mentioned that candidate will not have any probation period; they will be treated as permanent employees from day one.

Ms. Divya from Toppr Technologies talked to the students about the details of sales job at Toppr Technologies. Students appeared for group discussion and online aptitude test as the first step of selection process. 44 students out of 70 were shortlisted for the second round of personal interview. 11 students were given offer letter from Mphasis on the same day. Thereafter, group discussion was conducted for students appearing for Toppr technologies drive. 16 students out of 40 were selected for second round of video interview which was conducted in the college on 24 January 2020. 6 students qualified and were offered a placement by Toppr Technologies.

Tech Yuva 2020 Intra-College Competitions

Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized Tech Yuva 2020 Intra-college competitions in Computer Application under the department of BBA (CA) on Thursday, 30^th January 2020.

Various competitions like C Programming, Poster Presentation and Web Designing were conducted with the aim to enhance students’ subject knowledge, presentation skills and logical thinking.

These competitions were judged by Mr. Gajanan Deshmukh, Assistant Professor, Kashibai Navale College, Pune. In his speech, he motivated the students to be tech savvy. He also gave some tips to the participants and asked them to choose visuals wisely. He also advised them to plan the structure and sections. He told them that mistakes are a crucial step in learning, growing, and improving oneself.

The topics for Poster Presentation Competition were Artificial Intelligence in Retail, Machine Learning and for Web Designing Competition the topics were Event Management, E-commerce website and Tourism website.

Total 54 participants participated in these competitions. Vikas Tonde from SYBBA (CA) won the first prize and Hrushikesh Shinde from SYBSC (CS) won the second prize in C Programming Competition. In Poster Presentation competition Vedant Chandratre and Nidhi Shenoy from FYBSC (CS) bagged the first prize, Shivani Shede from FYBBA (CA) secured the second position and Vikas Tonde & Shreya Ramtirth from SYBBA (CA) secured the third position. In Web Designing Competition, Vivek Kavitake & Hrushikesh Vitankar from SYBSC (CS) won the first prize, Hrushikesh Shinde and Siddhant Kshirsagar from SYBSC (CS) won the second prize and Piyush Lachake and Atharva Deshpande from FYBBA (CA) won the third prize.

Expert Talk by Mr. Chandrashekhar Tilak on Budget 2020 at Kaveri College

Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce arranged an engaging session of Mr. Chandrashekhar Tilak, Executive Vice President, National Securities and Depository e-Governance Infrastructure Ltd. on the topic ‘Budget 2020’on 8^th February 2020.

Dr. Ashok Agrawal Principal and Vice-Principal Dr.Muckta Karmarkar welcomed Mr. Tilak. He was felicitated at the hands of Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha, Pune. 

During his talk, Mr. Tilak mentioned that Budget 2020-21 is all about strengthening Indian Economy. From heralding into a new democratic tax regime to bringing in more sectors under the purview of service sector to widening the contour of new economy, Mr. Tilak seemed very positive about the prospects of Indian Economy. He emphasized, citing example of IRCTC, that the sector which is age-neutral, gender-neutral, non-possibility of NPA and technologically sustainable is the contributor to economic prosperity.

He informed that interest bearing securities except Government securities will be slowly phased out in due course of time. The introduction of government owned companies’ IPOs is a way to reduce fiscal deficit. He added that our economy has not experienced any U turn since the time of reforms in 1990’s. Consistent efforts of policy makers are keeping our country economically safe. He mentioned conventional source of revenue generation is passé and the Government is more in favour of bringing in non-conventional ways for revenue generation. As service sector contributes 58% to the GDP of India, we should pay more attention to this sector. Dividend should be ploughed back. The disinvestments of IRCTC and now proposed disinvestment in LIC would lead to a stock split. This would result in creation of more shares and ultimately increase possibility of more dividend and bonus shares. He mentioned that after the success of IRCTC, LIC has high probability of success in IPO. He predicted that there would be more disinvestment of many high profit and employment generating organizations like Indian Postal Payments Bank. He emphasized that the focus would be more on promotion of horticulture rather than agriculture. He further added that the Self Help Groups (SHGs) can play a vital role in revenue generation. He cited examples of success stories of SHGs in Chattisgarh and Karnataka. Another area which is by far unorganized yet has the revenue-generation potential is that of waterways.

While elaborating on the changing contour of New Economy, he mentioned that there is a shift from ‘Game of Margin’ to ‘Game of Volume’. There should focus on service sector which is thought-oriented and knowledge-based. During the question-answer session, participants asked several questions pertaining to India becoming 5^th largest economy, allocation of funds to education sector etc.

Students of the college interviewed Mr. Tilak on this occasion in order to get the information about the fiscal policy, the relevance of FRBM Act in the context of Government often missing out on the targets, procedure of calculation of fiscal deficit to GDP, quantum technology, dividend distribution tax, viability to have only indirect tax imposition etc.

The talk of Mr. Tilak received a thumping response from audience from all walks of life including, students, parents and senior citizens.

National Level – Innovative Software Project Competition at Kaveri

National Level Innovative Software Project Competition was organized in Kaveri College on 8^th February 2020 in association with MTC Global, Bengaluru, Dhaka International University and  Global  Entrepreneurs Grid,  Bengaluru.

The competition was inaugurated at the hands of Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal in the presence of Dr. Muckta Karmarkar Vice Principal, Judges Dr. Kavita Khobragade, Head, Department of Computer Science, Fergusson College, Pune and  Mr. Bhalchandra Kahalerkar, Project Leader, BNY Mellon Technology.

Principal Sir congratulated all the team members for participating in the competition and also conveyed best wishes received from MTC Global, Bengaluru, Dhaka International University and  Global Entrepreneurs Grid, Bengaluru. He also mentioned that all the students who have registered are now part of Kaveri family.

Dr. Kavita Khobragade appreciated the students’ efforts in developing the projects. She said that students should improve the project depending on the suggestions received from the judges during the presentations.

Total 11 teams from various colleges like, Premraj Sarda College, Ahmednagar, BMCC, Abeda Inamdar Senior College, NBN Sinhagad School of Engineering, Ambegaon, Modern College and Kaveri College participated in the competition.

The projects presented were based on various technologies like IoT, Arduino microcontroller, C programming, HTML, JAVA, Dot Net etc

Team from NBN Sinhagad School of Engineering, Ambegaon won the first prize for the project titled ‘Smart Vehicle’ which was based on IoT technology and team from Abeda Inamdar Senior College bagged the second prize for their project titled ‘Student Credit System’ developed in Dot Net.

One Day Workshop on Scripting Languages In Association with Board of Students’ Development, SPPU

M. Sc (Computer Science) Department of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce in association with Board of Students’ Development, SPPU conducted a One Day Workshop on Scripting Languages on 7^th February 2020.

The workshop was inaugurated at the hands of Principal Dr. Ashok Agarawal, in presence of Vice Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Student Development Officer of the college Dr. Anand Buddhikot and Ms. Chitra Alavani, Coordinator M.SC (CS).

The first session was conducted by Mr. Kunal Pagariya, Senior Development Specialist, Amdocs, Pune. He conducted the session on Ruby scripting language. He started his session with the introduction to Ruby followed by hands-on session.  He covered various techniques that can be implemented in Ruby.

The second session was conducted by Mr. Nikesh Rathod, Senior Software Engineer, Synerzip, Pune. He conducted the session on Node JS scripting language. In his session he introduced  nodejs, history of nodejs, use of nodejs followed by hands-on session.  

In all 45 students participated in the workshop out of which 28 students were from various colleges like Baburaoji Gholap, Modern College Shivajinagar, MIT Alandi, Jaikranti, Nowrosjee Wadia College and Prof. Ramkrishna More College.

Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized a City Level Business Fest

 College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized a City Level Business Fest for three days from 27th to 29th January 2020 consisting of various sessions, presentations and competitions for the undergraduate students of all courses and streams. Principal, Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Vice Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, BBA and BBA (IB) Coordinator, Dr. Shweta Bapat, Faculty members and students were present for the same. The first day started with ‘Idea Generation Workshop’ conducted by renowned trainer and facilitator Mr. Ravindra Baviskar. The workshop received huge response of more than 90 students from different colleges in Pune such as, SNDT, BMCC, Modern College, DY Patil International University, Tilak Maharashtra University, Arihant College and Huzurpagha Girls College, Kaveri College of Arts Science and Commerce etc. attended the workshop. Various activities were conducted for generating and shaping the ideas and developing the business plan. Second event of the day was Innovative Product Poster Competition. Total 19 teams participated in this competition from different colleges. Participants presented their innovative ideas of products through posters. Judges for the competition were Mrs. Rasika Naik and Mrs. Pooja Ambole.

First Prize was won by Ms. Bhumi Agarwal and Mr. Ashish Devkar from BMCC for their product Heater Bottle and Second prize was won by Ms. Swarali Datar from Kaveri College of Arts Science and Commerce for her product Pen Scanner. Third event of the day was Business Plan Presentation Competition. Total 7 teams from different colleges participated. Students presented their detail startup business plan. Judges for the competition were Mrs. Rasika Naik and Dr. Deepa Sathe. First Prize was won by the team from D.Y. Patil University, their product was Sanitary Pads made-up with bamboo material and Second Prize was won by team from MMCC, their product was Cow-dung Pots. Winners of both the competitions received Rs. 500/- and certificates as 1st prize and Rs.250/- and certificates as second prize at the hands of Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Second day started with Business Quiz Competition. 6 teams from different colleges participated in the competition. First Prize was won by team from BMCC and Second Prize was won by team from Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Winners of competition received Rs. 500/- and certificates as 1st prize and Rs.250/- and certificates as second prize at the hands of Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal Kaveri College of Arts Science and Commerce. Second event of the day was a session on failure stories by Mr. Sanjay Orpe, MD OEM Ekvira Pvt Ltd. and session on success stories by Ms. Samruddha Patil, young entrepreneur and a blogger. They shared the success, failure and learnings out of these stories. 70 students from various colleges attended the session. Third event of the day was Research Paper Poster Presentation. Total 20 teams presented their research paper posters. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar Vice Principal, Mr. Sanjay Orpe and Ms. Samruddha Patil. All the visitors appreciated the efforts of the students. Third day of the Fest started with Marathon Management Games. This event was divided into two stages. First round was marathon games consisting Hopscotch, Coordination game, paper chain and crossword. Second round of Marathon Management Games was Mad Adz. Total 8 teams from various colleges participated in this event. Second round was for qualifying teams from round one. Out of total 8 teams five teams qualified for the second round. Judges for the second round were Mrs. Veena Tharkunde and Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty. First prize was won by team from Kaveri College of while second prize was won by team from DY Patil University. Winners of competition received their prizes at the hands of Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal. Final Event of the fest was Business Attire Presentation. Total 9 participants presented different forms of formal business attire and also explained the importance of the dress codes. The fest received huge response and hence was a great success.

Various Competitions organized by Science Association

Science Association of Kaveri College organized various competitions, such as quiz competition, spell master, poster competition and PPT competition on 23^rd and 24^th January 2020. Computer Science Department organized PPT competition on the topics, search engine, network security and cryptography. In case of Electronics Department the subjects for PPT competition were, IoT and industry 4.0, sensors and their applications etc. Mathematics and Statistics Department organized a Poster Competition on the topics, ‘Mathematics About me’ ‘Social Media Statistics’ and ‘Importance of Mathematics and Statistics in Everyday Life’.

Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal inaugurated the program. Vice-Principal Dr.Muckta Karamarkar, Co-ordinator, B.Sc. (Comp.Sci), Dr. Jayashree Bangali and Dr.Anand Buddhikot, Head of Science Association were present for the inauguration. They motivated the participants. Dr. Ranjana Shevkar from Modern College and Mrs. Bindu K.M. from Dr. Shamrao Kalamadi Jr. College judged the competitions.

All the competitions received huge response. Winners received certificates and prizes at the hands of Principal Sir and Judges. Ms. Akhila Kalmadi, Assistant Professor, Computer Science compered the programme and Dr. Anand Buddhikot, Head, Science Association proposed vote of thanks.
