Inauguration of Kaveri Research and Innovation Centre

The inauguration function of Kaveri Research and Innovation Centre was held on Saturday, 1st October, 2016 at 11.00 am.  at the hands of Chief Guest Dr. Sanjeev Galande, Dean, Research & Development, IISER, Pune.  Principal Dr. Kharosekar, Vice Principal Ms. Suchismita Mohanty and Dr. Jayashree Bangali, Head, Kaveri Research and Innovation Centre, faculty members and students were present for this function. Principal Dr. S.B.Kharosekar welcomed Dr. Galande and also explained the purpose behind starting Kaveri Research and Innovation Centre.

Dr. Galande, in his motivational speech explained the need of research and development in industry and also in educational institutions. He emphasized on the importance of continuous research work, innovation and discovering ourselves for the benefit of the society. He briefed about the ‘Teamwork, Hard work and out of Box thinking’ and how they are essential for innovation by giving examples.

He also explained the importance of Product Development by giving live examples of Apple and Samsung. India should be the Hub of new products in future. In this process, human resource is important and it can be created in the educational institutions. Ultimately it is the people who drive the product and not the technology. He focused on the need to inculcate Research culture in the organization to motivate research activities.

Ms. Geetanjali Pitre proposed vote of thanks and Ms. Chaithra Uchil compeered the function.

‘Kaveri College of Arts, Science & Commerce bagged the first prize of Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Elocution Competition’

Mr. Sumant Sen, student of TYBA, Kaveri College of Arts, Science & Commerce bagged the first prize of Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Elocution Competition held at Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce on 27^th September, 2016. He got a Rolling Trophy, Rs. 5000/- Cash prize, Memento and a Certificate at the hands of Dr. Deepak Tilak, Vice- chancellor, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune.  Ms. Sakshi Gandhi from DBJ College, Chiplun and Ms. Chaitrali Vispute from Bhusawal Arts, Science and Commerce College, were the first and second runners-up respectively. They won Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- Cash prizes, Mementos and Certificates respectively. Mr. Imaad- Ul- Hasan from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University, Aurangabad won the consolation prize of Rs. 1000 and a certificate. In the impromptu competition, Mr. Sumant Sen won the first prize, Ms. Rama Gokhale from Kaveri College won the second prize and Mr. Imaad- Ul- Hasan won the third prize.

This competition was started to pay tribute to Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi who was the founder President of Kannada Sangha, a great visionary and a social reformer who wanted to serve the underprivileged people. The Elocution Competition has grown in stature in last five years and now has become a great cultural event in Pune. It has given a platform to young budding orators to become the leaders of tomorrow. In its sixth year the competition got an overwhelming response. Total 53 students participated representing various colleges from Pune, Mumbai, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Chiplun, Bhusawal, Latur, Loni, Amalner, Ahmednagar, and Rajgurunagar. The competition was conducted in Marathi and English language. ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji: The People’s King’ and ‘Freedom of Expression: A Double Edged Sword’ were the most opted topics. Dr. Ramesh Awalgoankar, Principal, Saraswati Night College, Dr. Vaishali Naik, HoD English, Baburao Gholap College, Pune; and Mr. Gururaj Garde, Educational Consultant and Counselor were the judges for the competition.

The competition was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha. Mrs. Indira Salian Vice-President, Kannada Sangha and Mr. B. B. Rao, Treasurer, Kannada Sangha were present for the inauguration ceremony. In his inaugural address Chief Guest Mr. Kushal Hegde, shared his memories of Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi. Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, said that the Competition has provided an opportunity to participants to hone their oratory, persuasive, and leadership skills. Ms. Sayee Kulkarni, Chairman, Debate and Elocution Committee briefed the audience about the competition.

The Impromptu Speech Competition was also held during the post-lunch session followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony. In his welcome address, Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, thanked the Management for financial and motivational support. Dr. Deepak Tilak, Vice Chancellor, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony.  Dr. Tilak said that good oratory is not limited to politics but today it has become a requirement in every sector. He said that such competitions are the reservoirs of orators and speakers.

Mrs. Chitra Alavani compered the programme. Ms. Sayee Kulkarni, Chairman- Elocution and Debate Committee proposed vote of thanks. The programme ended with the recital of Vande Mataram.

Kaveri College of Arts, Science & Commerce organizes State Level Elocution Competition

Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri College of Science & Commerce has organized Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State Level Elocution Competition on Tuesday, 27^th September, 2016. This Competition is a tribute to Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi, Founder President of Kannada Sangha. A visionary, Dr. Shamrao Kalmadi was a pioneer in the field of medicine and a renowned social worker.

The competition will be open to all under graduate and post graduate students in the state of Maharashtra. The competition provides a platform for the students to participate in intellectual, social, spiritual and scientific discussions. It also helps the students hone their oratorical skills, persuasive skills and leadership skills.  

The subjects for the competition are: “1)Work is Worship, 2)Chhatrapati Shivaji: The People’s King, 3) Being Swadeshi: The Right Path to National Growth, 4) Freedom of Expression: A Double Edged Sword, 5) Reform, Perform, and Transform”

 The inauguration of the competition will take place at the hands of Shri. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha. Prize distribution will be done at the hands of Dr. Deepak Tilak, Vice Chancellor, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune. Winner of this competition will get a Rolling Trophy, Rs. 5000/- Cash prize, Memento and Certificate. Runners-up will get Rs. 3000/- Cash prize, Memento and Certificate. Second Runners-up will get Rs. 2000/- Cash prize, Memento and Certificate. Each participant will get a participation certificate.

Seminar on “Career Guidance” at Kaveri College

Kaveri college of Arts Science and Commerce under Vocational Guidance Cell has organized a seminar on “Career Guidance” on 13^th September, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in association with ICICI Academy for Skills. Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College, Dr. Jayashri Bangali, coordinator B.Sc, Ms. Pallavi Joshi, Coordinator vocational guidance cell, members of the committee, Teachers, and students were present on the occasion. The programme was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. S.B.Kharosekar. Ms.Sonali Yeole compeered the programme.

The session was conducted by Mr. Ankush Koul from ICICI Academy, Pune. He guided the students on how they should concentrate on the things that will give them the long term results. He also mentioned that the students have to give importance to academics as well as to develop their personality which will help them to grab the job opportunities. He also emphasized that the students should prioritise their work so that time management could be properly done.

The session ended with the question answer rounds. Ms.Meenal Sagade from ICICI Academy for Skills gave the information regarding the different skill development courses run by the academy. Around 60 students were present for the session.

State Level Conference at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce

The Two Days State Level Conference on Recent Trends in English Studies and Research was organized at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce on 29th and 30th August 2016. The Conference was organized by the Department of English under the Quality Improvement Program of SPPU. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Thorat, Founder-Director, Indian Institute of Advanced studies in English, Pune. Mr. Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha, Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannada Sangha, Mr. B. B. Rao, Treasurer, Kannada Sangha and Ms. Radhika Sharma, Trustee, Kannada Sangha, graced the occasion. Dr. Shirish Sahasrabuddhe, Director, ELTIS & SSFIL, Dr. S.B. Kharosekar, Principal, Kaveri College, Mrs. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice-Principal, Kaveri College and Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Convener were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Kharosekar in his welcome speech informed the audience about the stupendous growth of Kaveri College over the period of time. He congratulated the Arts Department for conducting a State Level Conference in a short span of time. In his inaugural speech, Dr. Ashok Thorat said that incorporating digital technology in Humanities studies is a need of the hour. He said digital media has transformed the reader and the author to a great extent.

Dr. Muktaja Mathkari, Principal, M.E.S’ Abasaheb Garware College, conducted the first plenary session and her topic was Rethinking Feminism. She asserted that Western feminism is different from Indian Feminism and emphasized that it’s high time women start voicing their own problems and begin the process of becoming a whole human being. She attempted to contextualize women in her speech. Dr. Sonal Kulkarni Joshi, Professor, Deccan College, conducted the second plenary session and her topic was Discourse Perspectives on Language. She talked about the types of Discourses and then elaborated upon Cohesion and coherence of Discourse.

Dr. Chindhade, Retired Principal of MU College, Pimpri, in an insightful address spoke about the inevitability of change and the human struggle to be in the race with that change by embracing digital humanities. Professors and Ph.D. scholars from Pune, Nashik, Amaravati, Ahmednagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nigdi, Nanded and Kolhapur presented their papers on various topics the Conference. 

The two days conference ended with the distribution of certificates to all participants at the hands of Dr. S.B. Khaorsekar, Principal, Kaveri College in the presence of Dr. Ashok Joshi, Retd. HoD, English, Goa University. Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Convener and HOD of English, gave a review of the Conference and also proposed vote of thanks. Ms. Priya Deshmukh and Ms. Sonali Joshi compeered the program.
